Denmark designer Anne Boysen had been meticulously evolving her concept for the Toward collection for more than 10 years, starting with a single sofa before revamping and elevated it to the complete collection presented by Hightower.
Boysen first began exploring the sofa design for a student project in 2012, in which she was questioning how humans do and will use furniture in the future. The initial version essentially merged an armchair with a chaise longue with a tête-á-tête, resulting in a super-comfortable lounger. That single-person sofa evolved with the Hightower Studio to become the sustainable and modular Toward collection, one that is capable of accommodating and support diverse users and needs.
Over the course of the revamp, the dimensions of the seat depth and pitch of the back were changed, as was the design of the leg, and other tweaks were made that elevated the overall comfort.
Now the Toward collection boasts 17 modules, including movable armrests, different backrests, curved and straight elements, as well as square- and pie-shaped tables (three in total) that can be integrated within a design.
Button tufting-like details on the seats lends Toward by Ann Boysen a tailored look, with the organically shaped back- and armrests bring a subtle levity. Undermounted power can be added if desired, and includes a grounded plug outlet and USB options.
Tables and legs are finished in white oak and a wide range of upholstery options are available. Hand-picked by Boysen, upholstery colourways range from dark emerald tones to shades of calming yellow and bright cream, making it suitable for a variety of interior styles and settings.
