I will be listening to Sinatra.

Beautiful, relevant perspective.

To put on my woo-woo hat for a moment, there was some big convergence of the planets back in December 20–between Biden’s historic win and the Jan 6 terrorist attack in DC–and according to the soothsayers it portends a massive shift away from authoritarian, fascistic movements, the kind that have been building for decades and in this country since at least Reagan. The radical religionists, ethnic extremists, and identity maniacs are suddenly being exposed for the cancer that they are. We have Putin to thank for that. Let’s keep bringing good sound to good people, and to hell with the rest. Tim

Steven,

I can relate so much to what you just wrote. I am personally grateful to him for that level of service to our country.

It’s a miracle that I’m even here to be honest — the Holocaust took 90% of my family in Europe and I think we are at a very important moment in world history.

Best,

My grandfather piloted B17s over Germany and France in WW2, flying something like 32 missions. He, too, NEVER talked about it. He came home to Portland, Oregon, opened up an ice cream shop, raised a big family, and lived the rest of his days in peace. He was indeed one of the fortunate ones.

Nick,

Very kind of you to say that. Definitely not a good week in the world.

It’s really good equipment. Cyrus is very underrated and built like a tank. The i7-XR is actually moving on to another reviewer and I’m getting the i9-XR in its place next. Same CD player.

Best,
Ian

I can only imagine how much you feel the music, the personal family connection and the history when you pick up those old records and the needle hits the groove.

Kevin,

So very true and appreciate the kind words. Especially as things are about to get really ugly again in Europe.

The Wharfedale Linton are fabulous. One of my favorite speakers.

Best,

Great article. Your grandfather is a reason we still have the option of non German gear. Life is full of woven experiences, I’m glad you included your memories. I have the Wharfedales and love them and the stands.

It’s not blinkered.

Putin is a thug. My grandfather was born in Lviv. I have many Russian and Ukrainian friends and it’s my perspective. If people think Russia has a legitimate reason to invade a sovereign nation and surround it with Thermobaric missile launchers and 150,000 troops and tanks — I don’t know what to tell you.

Nobody who watched his rambling speech yesterday could possibly think he’s not a tad nuts.

Focus on the rest of the article. The bigger point was that music often reminds us of events in our lives tied to history and events beyond our control.

Best,
Ian White
