Earth Day Podcast: Sustainability in Audio with NAD & MQA

Does music consumption affect our ecosystem? Join us for a roundtable discussion to learn how both NAD Electronics and MQA Ltd. are embracing the challenge to combat environmental issues.

When was the last time you thought about your environmental impact while binge watching Netflix or streaming your favorite music for hours. All consume energy, and contribute to our global carbon footprint.

For this special Earth Day episode of the podcast we sit down with both NAD Electronics and MQA Ltd. to discuss how each company is embracing the challenge to lessen its (and our) environmental impact.

MQA is the technology behind the award-winning TIDAL (Masters) streaming service. The company claims it reduces the carbon footprint of streaming high-resolution audio files by as much as 80% and makes resolution 15 times better. Using carbon calculator tools, annual savings from just one person streaming 24/192 files on TIDAL (Masters) vs Apple or Amazon for 6 hrs/day equates to:

= 5 return flights London/Berlin or;
= 9 return car journeys London/Manchester or;
= Planting 19 trees.

Environmental Impact of Music Streaming MQA vs 24-bit/192Hz Hi-res Audio from Apple or Amazon

Our panel includes:

  • Greg Stidsen, NAD CTO
  • Cas Oostvogel, NAD Product Manager
  • Andy Dowell, MQA VP of Licensing
