Cadenza sofa collection by Expormim

In the design world, the term luxury oscillates between many meanings. Though it has most commonly been associated with excess, extravagance and a high price tag, the pandemic ushered in an era of minimalism and mindful consumption that quickly made its way into high-end interiors. But for Spanish furniture brand Expormim, the concept of quiet luxury has been a guiding principle from the outset. Founded in 1960, the company has worked with sought-after designers to develop a portfolio of elegant, timeless pieces utilizing local rattan, all while keeping craftsmanship and comfort at the forefront. Its latest launches designed by David López Quincoces and frequent collaborator Norm Architects are no exception.

Take the Cadenza sofa series, for instance. A contemporary take on a classic silhouette, the collection by David López Quincoces nestles plush yet structured cushions into a gently curved frame. Its name aptly translates to cadence, referencing the almost musical rhythm and harmony of the vertical elements of the rattan structure. Available as a loveseat, three-seater sofa, extra-large sofa and two different sized armchairs, there is a configuration to suit spaces of all sizes, imbuing interiors with everyday luxury.

Like Cadenza, the newly introduced Loop chair was designed by Norm Architects with versatility and timelessness in mind, adopting the design language of turn-of-the-century café chairs in Vienna and Paris. “Loop is our take on the classic multipurpose chair: a dining chair, a café chair, a kitchen chair, a balcony chair, that extra chair in a nice corner or the hallway,” the designers explain. “The reason is its construction, both classic and modern, an approach that makes it versatile and elegant, fit to any place and occasion. A chair that never grows old.”

Though it draws on historical references, the simple café chair has been updated with a curvilinear form that evokes a charming smile; its upholstered seat echoes the shape of the cane backrest. And while its design will surely stand the test of time, its durable rattan construction ensures it can endure as an heirloom piece for generations to come. Keeping sustainability top of mind, Norm Architects designed the chair with clean lines and a compact size, reducing material use and, by extension, Loop’s carbon footprint.

Stripped down to their essential forms, Cadenza and Loop showcase the beauty of the traditional rattan craftsmanship that has become a calling card for Expormim. The collections are both manufactured at the company’s factory in Moixent, which manages the entire production line from rattan bending to joinery, finishing, weaving and upholstery. The result is unparalleled quality, driven by attention to detail at every stage of the process, from raw material selection to final installation. What could be more luxurious?
